The PipeMic 100M is an advanced in-pipe acoustic leak detection tool engineered for use in pressurised water networks. By positioning an acoustic sensor directly inside the main, it detects leak noise at the source, improving detection accuracy compared to surface-based methods alone. The innovative sensor tip houses an integrated acoustic sensor capable of identifying leaks within the pipe. Once leak noise is detected, the pipe route can be traced using standard CAT and Genny equipment. The integrated sonde allows accurate tip tracing, enabling precise surface pinpointing above the leak location.
This 100m model uses a robust 4.5mm semi-rigid fibreglass rod designed to negotiate slow, long-radius bends in 25mm service pipes while maintaining sufficient rigidity for use in small diameter mains up to 100mm. This makes the system suitable for a wide range of distribution network applications.
Operating between 1 bar and 10 bar, the PipeMic 100M performs reliably across UK water main pressures, and it can be located at depths of up to 3.5 metres, depending on tracing equipment and ground conditions.
Audio is transmitted via Bluetooth to headphones or an external speaker, while a built-in light bar provides a clear visual indication of acoustic signal levels during operation. Powered by a standard 9V alkaline battery, the system delivers up to 12 hours of operational use in the field. Deployment is possible through multiple access points, including service pipe connections, valves, boundary boxes, PE top tees, saddles and hydrants, using appropriate fittings and pressure-balanced systems. Each system is supplied complete with an inbuilt acoustic sensor, integrated sonde, mechanical length counter, external Bluetooth speaker, external chlorination tank and banana connection leads for immediate use on site.
